WHY IS THIS INFORMATION IMPORTANT?

This page will tell you everything that you need to know about the Acura MDX.  Buying a vehicle is a huge accomplishment and a huge financial outlay.  We want you to have as much information as possible, so that you can make the best decision for you.

Chevrolet Bolt

The Chevrolet Bolt or Chevrolet Bolt EV is a front-motor, five-door all-electric subcompact hatchback marketed by Chevrolet. It was developed and manufactured in partnership with LG Corporation.[4] A rebadged European variant was sold as the Opel Ampera-e in mainland Europe, but was discontinued after 2018.

Sales of the 2017 Bolt began in California in December 2016, with nationwide US and international markets release in 2017.[5][6] The Bolt was the U.S. second best selling plug-in car in 2017. Global combined Bolt/Ampera-e family sales totaled 112,000 units by the end of 2020.

The Bolt was named the 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year, the 2017 North American Car of the Year,[7] an Automobile Magazine 2017 All Star, and was listed in the Time Magazine’s Best 25 Inventions of 2016.[8]

The Bolt has been subject to a number of recalls, with concerns over the battery pack spontaneously catching fire. In August 2021, GM issued a statement advising owners to park in open areas, at least 50 feet away from other vehicles, due to the possibility of the battery pack catching fire.[9]

What the critics have to say…

The updated Chevy Bolt has a premium new look and more modern tech, but it’s the price tag that makes it more compelling than ever.

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

The Bolt scooted from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds in our testing, which is reasonably quick for an EV in this price range. You can merge onto freeways with ease or overtake when you need it. The Bolt’s brakes are consistent and easy to control if you prefer to not use the single-pedal mode to do most of your slowing from regenerative braking. We like the latter since it requires less effort and improves range. There’s even an additional steering-wheel regen braking paddle for those who want to maximize energy recuperation.

IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?

Is the Chevrolet Bolt Reliable?

The 2021 Bolt does not have a predicted reliability score at this time.

Chevrolet Bolt Warranty

Chevrolet covers this EV with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty.

HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?

The front seats now have adequate cushioning compared to those in previous model years. They’re no longer a literal pain in our backsides on long road trips, though we still think they could use a little more thigh bolstering. The Bolt’s ride quality, however, is still overly busy and choppy because the suspension struggles to absorb pavement cracks and sharp-edged potholes.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?

Chevy spruces up the Bolt EV’s cabin with a more upscale design that the company says includes better materials than before and more soft-touch surfaces. The steering wheel now features a flat-bottom, the driver faces a new 8.0-inch fully digital gauge cluster, and the old electronic shifter is replaced by a set of pull toggles and push buttons.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is standard. These smartphone integration systems are all you get for in-car navigation because an integrated navigation system isn’t offered. The touchscreen is big and responsive. Two front USB ports (one regular and one USB-C) come standard, and you get additional ports for the rear passengers when jumping up to the 2LT trim.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?

Although the updated Bolt EV has the same passenger space as before, including a back seat that’s roomy enough for two adults, it does have redesigned front seats that are said to be more comfortable. The hatchback’s rear cargo space still measures 17 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 57 cubes with those rear seatbacks folded flat.

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?

It’s got a new look and some new tech, but not much else has changed for the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV. However, combine these smaller quality-of-life tweaks with a more enticing price tag — starting around $5,500 cheaper than last year — and the little Bolt begins to look like a pretty big value.

IS THE Chevrolet Bolt A GOOD EV?

Yes, the Chevrolet Bolt is a good electric vehicle. It distinguishes itself from other models in the hybrid and electric car class with its extensive driving range, peppy acceleration, and playful handling. The Bolt EV also has a spacious cabin and a large cargo hold. However, its seats could use additional cushioning, and its cabin has more hard plastics than you’d expect in such a pricey hatchback. Also, nearly all class competitors have a higher safety score.

SHOULD I BUY THE Chevrolet Bolt?

The Chevy Bolt EV has one of the longest electric-only ranges this side of a Tesla, at 259 miles. For instance, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric has about 170 miles of range, which is almost 90 less than the Chevy Bolt’s range. Shoppers with range anxiety might want to consider the luxurious Tesla Model 3, as its Long Range variant can go more than 350 miles per charge, though this requires a hefty price increase over the Bolt or even base Model 3.

THE FINAL WORD

The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV is a good car. Compared to other models in the hybrid and electric car class, it has a long driving range and a spacious cargo hold, as well as a potent powertrain. It’s fun to drive too. While the Bolt has shortcomings – such as some cheap cabin plastics and insufficiently cushioned seats – it’s worth a look from any EV shopper.
